People Profits Principle #77

Ever had an employee who You knew they could succeed - but THEY did not know they could succeed? When they did succeed - they were then off to the races? Nothing could stop them?

I have know alot of people like that. The biggest obstacle was THEM! Keep you eye out for those people. The ROI is amazing!

People Profits Principle #76

Why can't your employees follow the values the organization has adopted? Why are decisions made which are clearly outside of your values? Why can't they seem to "get it".

One issue is any deviation, no matter how small, from the values, policy or process by upper management will be exponentially larger as it approaches the bottom of the organization. A 10% deviation at the top of the organization, will be 20% at the next level, 40% at the third level and 80% at the fourth level.

People Profits Principle #75

Ever been in a meeting with an employee and it dawns on you that you do not know anything about them directly? Do you know alot of what other people have told you? How do you know that is correct and true? Ever lost an employee to later find out that what you were told was not true?

This has happened to me several times. I am talking to an employee and I realize that I know nothing about them. I have learned to talk about what I have been told about them and get information directly from them.

People Profits Principle #74

Did you lose another one of your "best employees"? Why? Is there another reason then money? Do you realize employees sometimes say they are leaving for money when in reality it is something else? What else could it be? Is it an elephant in the room that you do not want to talk about?

If you are paying market rate and competitive benefits - then the problem is probably something else. That "something else" is generally not hard to find.

People Profits Principle #73

Have you ever worked for a leader who was not fair? Showed favoritism? Was weak and ineffective? Who said one thing and did another? Who did not communicate well? Who did not see his weaknesses? What was that experience like?

Engagement can not happen when the leader is not leading or is leading ineffectively. Employees are going to drift and many times leave over time. People do not expect their leaders to be right EVERY time. People are looking for someone who is sincerely trying to make it better and who have personal integrity.
