A skills gap is created when there is a demand for certain skills and not enough workers have those skills. The State of Oklahoma has a serious skills gap which government, education and private industry are working together to solve. We have enough high school, college and post college graduates. We are far short is in the skilled to highly skilled workers.
Machinists, plumbers, welders, electricians, RNs, and many others. My entire career has been in industries where we had a skills gap. Industrial field mechanics, paramedics, machinists, machine/equipment operators (both manufacturing and heavy), truck drivers, to name a few. Every company I have ever worked for has had a skills gap in the backbone positions of the company.
Over the years I have refined a system and a process that I have named Value Pathing. The goals of Value Pathing are:
Take a warm pair of hands and develop them into what we need.
Clearly identifies the Value Points along the path.
Create IMMEDIATE value.
Motivate the employee to take charge of their own development.
Reward the employee for taking charge.
Develop a clear and documented path for the employee.
Developing what we need – not employee desires.
This system brings the following results:
Organizational and employee agreement on the future Value Points.
Immediate Organizational Value and Employee Reward.
Marginal value creation continues in the future.
Employee and Organizational goals and processes are aligned.
Easily adjusted for individual employees.
Works in all industries.
What does this mean for you?
The BREAKEVEN COST per employee is REDUCED.
The TIME before value creation is all but eliminated.
Voluntary employee turnover is all but eliminated.
Employee ENGAGEMENT and RETENTION is increased.
The organization is now primed for GROWTH!!
