Good employees want an opportunity – bad employees just want a paycheck
This fundamental truth affects your employee turnover in so many ways.
The myth of the silver bullet
We all want to believe in the power of the silver bullet. We just have to do this one thing and everything will get better. When it comes to employee turnover – there are no silver bullets. My experience is employee turnover solutions are the opposite of a silver bullet. They are a laundry list of policies, plans and actions which result from a well-developed strategy.
One step forward - two steps back
You got him!! He accepted the offer. This is a key position and it has been open for too long. You had to pay more than you wanted to but it will be worth it. You are celebrating, high fiving, planning the party.
“I am just here until something better comes along!!”
These are the words of a hopeless employee who sees no future with his current employer. As the Owner or CEO you will not hear this directly from the employees. Maybe indirectly through an Employee Engagement Survey or through an honest front line supervisor – your main feedback will be through your turnover statistics. There will always be other organizations who will show him a future.
